Friday September 29th

So this past week we got to finish the card games in class. In my group we tried to understand the rules for the card game The Crew. It looked like a really cool game with a sick theme. Although,it took us the whole class period and we barely played the game. It looked like a really fun game and concept. I think it showed our group that the way we write our rules for our assignment is very important. In one of our readings for this week it talks about “Clear rules require a mix of creative and technical writing, explaining the game’s backstory as well as its mechanics, in terms that novices can understand, and that experts cannot misread.” When I read that part, it really struck me that there is a lot more that goes into writing rules for a game than I thought. We also have to bring together the group themes for our travel themed card game. I have been stuck on what theme to bring to the group but I read in the Macklin chapter about conceptualizing they talk about “The goal of brainstorming isn’t just generating lots of ideas. It is to help get the creative juices flowing”. That really stuck with me cause I always have trouble coming up with ideas but if I just brainstorm ideas of random things it can potentially lead me to a theme for our card game.
